Elder Project

This program was designed to provide elderly people in Santiago Atitilan, who do not have families to care for them, with basic food items.  Because Guatemala does not have any social programs to care for the elderly, many of them end up begging on the streets for food and often become very sick from malnutrition.  This program helps these elderly people receive maize and beans and other necessities to help them survive.

Once a month Chonita and others put together packages of corn, rice, beans, coffee, and other staples.  The elders come to her house and participate in a program of blessings and prayers.  The elders then take the packages back to their homes.

There are now 52 elders who belong to this program.  We have sponsors for 39 of them but need sponsors for the other 13.  The cost is $10/month or $120/year. If you are interested, please make your check out to “Friends of Sharing the Dream” and send it to:
