Bridge to new clinic

Dr. Marisa Sevillando S. from Madrid, Dr. Carlos Zarco Olivo from Madrid, Dra. Concepción Meroño M from Sevilla Spain, and Dra. Beatriz Soto Almendro from Madrid, in their last day in Casa Guatemala, worry and scare with all what is happening, rush to town and put all their Money into provisions and bottle water, they will be leaving tomorrow to Guatemala City and then back to Spain, they are very concern about our situation.

I now have to add, that some of the sewer pipe lines are braking with the underground pressure. We are afraid the drinking water well will be contaminated. Please we need help; we most buy bottle water soon.

The parents of the local children are coming to the school to pick up their children, everybody is scare in how much the level of the river will raise.

8 A.M.
I just got a phone call from Rio Dulce, the rain does not stop, last night was an electrical storm and heavy rain, some of the classrooms under water already, children, volunteers and the staff are very scary. She also informs that the generator is not working; it means no electricity, no drinking water. I just hope the septic tanks take the pressure under ground and don’t pup up, this will be horrible.

4:30 A.M.
I am terrible worry, we are having so much rain that the level of the river has raised about 4 feet or more, it is an enormous amount of water, it is scary..

With all this water. The Hotel Backpacker is an island; it is totally surrounded by water. The laundry section is under water, the parking area is a two feet deep lagoon, no customers and no income, as you know we never finished the reconstruction of the hotel after the earthquake, the roof leaks all over, and thank God we do not have strong winds, because the thin roof will not hold together.

In Casa Guatemala: The bridge that connect with the farm is under water, volunteers, employees and children walk with the shoes on their hands with the water up to their knees.  The teacher’s house has the water 3 inches below the floor.

We are having a non stop rain, Thousands of people who live on the banks of the Motagua river are been evacuated already, If it keeps raining in this way, the road from La Ruidosa to Rio Dulce will be flooded in such a way that the car traffic will be impossible.

With all this water we expect people with their children from the neighborhood asking for help, millions of mosquitoes will come with this rain and for sure we will have more illness. And to make the situation more difficult, we are totally broken, I am very worry, contributions are not coming in, bills are pilling up, and there is no potential donor on the sight that could give us a good hand. Wish us luck in this one, and please join us to go together through this disaster.

Love you
Angie
